There are many beaches in the area of Cagliari that are easy to reach by boat, amongst which is Poetto, the favorite beach of people from Cagliari during the summer and on any sunny day throughout the year.
It is known for its lagoons and its nearby naturalist oasis that is unique in Europe.
To be seen are also the old salt mines with their purple rose shades and the pink flamingos that live nearby. To the East of Cagliari there is the Molentargius basin: a natural park and the perfect environment for many animal and plants; to the West there is Santa Gilla Basin, a magical place known to be one of the first settlement of the Carthaginians.
For mountain lovers there is the possibility to visit the Botanical Garden of Cagliari University which contains about 600 trees and 550 bushes. Of special value is the area dedicated to the palm collection.
The presence of cisterns and wells from Roman times make it a relevant and interesting archeological site.
Beautiful views can be seen from the top of the town hills: from the Public Gardens and Terrapieno, Monte Urpino, Colle di san Michele and the park of Monte Claro.
To be seen in Cagliari:
- The Civic market of San Benedetto: it is the largest in Italy and among the first in Europe. On the ground floor there is the fish market and on the upper level the department of fruit and vegetables, meat and other products and services.
- The National archeological museum of Cagliari: located in the museums complex, offers the possibility to go through a complete temporal excursus from the Stone Age and the history of Sardinia.
- The necropolis of Tuvixeddu: is the largest Phoenician and Puni Necropolis still existing in the Mediterranean basin with over a thousand tombs. The name comes from the Sardinian language “tuvu” which means hole, due to the presence of several tombs excavated in the calcareous rock.  Roman Amphitheater: nestled in the heart of Colle di Buoncammino, is the most important monumental symbol of the city, the most relevant attraction of Roman times in Sardinia.
