Well Done

The organic farmhouse Serragambetta offers its guests the possibility to participate in traditional Apulian cooking classes, organized to spread the culture of the territory through the acquisition of the secrets of its culinary tradition.
Zia Nina, Domenico’s mother (people maybe remember who she is for her involvement as a regular guest in the TV “Verde mattina” on RAI) is the one in charge of introducing people to the tastes and colors of local cooking.
To learn about baking bread, pizza, flatbread and biscuits, guests can turn to Domenico or Anna.
At Serragambetta it is possible to eat in a healthy way while enjoying the tranquility of the countryside.
It is also possible to relax thanks to the body treatments and therapeutic massages available upon request in the facility’s garden, the ideal place for a country stay of wellbeing.


Serragambetta farmhouse is located between Castellana, known for its caves, and Conversano, the city of counts, in the South-Eastern Murge hills.
This is  the countryside of Trulli and dry stone walls ( muretti a secco), centuries-old olive trees and red land, of Masserie (farmhouses built on rural lands) and Casini di villeggiatura (facilities for vacations).
The facility was built around 1880 by the doctor Domenico Lanerv as a summer house. 100 years later the story of the organic farmhouse began.
Today Serragambetta is managed by Domenico, the same name but a different person, a theater lover who is very knowledgeable about local culture, but also a great storyteller and an excellent pizzaiolo (pizza maker).
He is always available to give his guests information about excursions to satisfy any kind of curiosity about local products.
All accommodations (bedrooms and apartments) are equipped with independent bathrooms. Plates, pots and pans are provided only for weekly stays.
In the common areas - gardens, swimming pool, small woods and dining room – there are tables with chairs, beach umbrellas and chairs to read, drink and snack.

Only organic products, mainly produced by Serragambetta itself (ICEA –AIAB, producer P067 certifications) or coming from local organic farm businesses are used in cooking.
The garden offers its seasonal products which are always fresh and healthy.
From winter vegetables: turnip greens, cauliflower, chicory, fennel and lettuce to the summer ones: tomatoes, zucchini, eggplant, peppers, beans, basil, watermelon, cucumber.
There is also extra virgin olive oil, almonds, cherries and all kinds of fruit: figs, prunes, lemons, pears, peaches, apricots, quince and pomegranate.
Many products are processed by the farm business to make delicious jams, tomato sauces, and peeled tomatoes, brined olives and spreads, pickled vegetables and in oil, as well as rosoli (a liquor).
For breakfast baked biscuits and bread are accompanied by jams and fresh-picked tomatoes.
Often early in the morning, Mr. Luigi from the neighboring masseria, brings the kitchen fresh, still-steaming ricotta cheese: a giant success!
Lunch and meals not included in the half board are available upon request and, based on the agreed-upon menu, cost between 30 and 40 euros per person.
Dinner is usually for guests who stay at the farmhouse and includes appetizer, first and second courses, fruit, sweets and rosoli, drinks are included.
The indicative cost is 25 euros per person.

Apulian villages and small town represent one of the most relevant attractions in the region: not to miss are Alberobello, the Castellana caves, Conversano, Castel del Monte, Lecce e Matera. Just a few km away are many beach destinations such Monopoli, Polignano e Ostuni.
The countryside is typical. Signs and ruins that are possible to see by going through small streets and “passaturi” are so numerous that is easy to image what was happening in these places centuries ago.
In the sequence of “Specchie”, dry walls, palmenti (where grapes used to be pressed), farmyards, olive groves, olive groves, and still more olive groves, it is possible to hear the footsteps that passed through those streets, to see the hands of the people who placed the stones, to listen to the effort and sweat of people who changed that territory in order to produce all that is necessary to live without taking away its breath and soul.

In total there are 7 apartments and bedrooms all with bathroom.
For B&B service, the price per person is 46€ per night and 66€ for half board during low season. In high season there is only half board service and the price is 74€ per person.
For B&B service, included in the price is the overnight stay plus breakfast, in the half board dinner is included.
Wine, drinks, beverages and daily cleaning are included in the price.
